What to know: Here is a meeting of the winless-but-still-promising teams.
Collins Hill is 0-2 for the second straight season after losses to Shiloh (27-14) and Norcross (17-14). No matter; the Eagles went on to the state quarterfinals last season, defeating Lambert 35-13 in the first round at The Horn. Longhorns fans will surely remember Eagles quarterback Drew Dinsmore, who threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns in that playoff game. He’s surrounded by nine other returning starters on offense. Collins Hill’s defense, meanwhile, returned just four starters, all in the secondary, led by junior and three-star recruit Peyton Woolard.
It’s worth pointing out that Lambert was without starters Brian Wright, Ken Dicks and Harrison Pomfret in that playoff loss last season due to injuries. Dicks made his presence felt this season already with an interception in the Longhorns’ 28-24 loss in the final minutes at Mountain View last week. So did wide receiver Tyler Gillis, who caught five passes for 107 yards and a touchdown. Lambert will hope it has better luck against another Gwinnett County opponent.
