Lambert chipped away, fell behind, chipped away, fell behind further, and still the Chattahoochee girls couldn’t put the Lady Longhorns away.
Kara Kidwell’s three-pointer with 1:26 to play caused Chattahoochee coach Haaris Quraishy to call timeout — the Lady Cougars’ nine-point halftime lead had dwindled to just one.
Whatever he said seemed to work. The Lambert girls scored just once thereafter, but Chattahoochee’s 38-33 win Tuesday night wasn’t complete until Charity Starkes’ two free throws with four ticks remaining.
Leah Cote led Lambert (9-11 overall, 4-9 Region 6-AAAAAA) with 14 points. Ashley Johnson added six points and Kidwell finished with five.
Chattahoochee (12-6, 6-6) did just enough. The Lady Cougars made 11 of 14 free-throw attempts in the second half and hit three from the stripe in the final 29 seconds.
