Etowah at Lambert

When, where: Wednesday, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., Thursday TBA (if necessary) at Lambert High School in Suwanee.

Records, rankings, seedings: Etowah is 15-15, the No. 4 seed from Region 5-AAAAAA and unranked; Lambert is 24-2, the No. 1 seed from Region 6-AAAAAA and ranked No. 4.

What to know: Lambert actually did not clinch the Region 6-AAAAAA crown with last Tuesday’s win over Northview, but the fourth-ranked Lady Longhorns took care of business at North Forsyth on Friday to earn the No. 1 seed. That was big—provided Lambert gets past Etowah, they miss third-ranked Brookwood in the second round. Savannah Huffstetler (.507, 9 HR, 31 RBI), Kassidy Krupit (.507, 30 RBI, 12 2B) and Macy Stovall (.397, 29 RBI, 6 SB) are heating up in the absence of center fielder Maddy Butz. Sophomore pitcher Marissa Guimbarda won 13 of her 15 starts this season with 12 complete games, posting a 1.48 earned run average in 90 innings. Opposing batters hit just .209 off of her. Krupit went 9-0 in 11 appearances (eight starts) with a 1.29 ERA.

Lambert and Etowah had just two common opponents this season: Buford and Brookwood. Both teams lost 8-0 to Buford; Etowah lost to Brookwood, 8-0, while Lambert beat the Lady Broncos, 7-1. Etowah scored 135 runs and allowed 163 in 30 games, a minus-28 run differential. For a Lambert team that romped through an 18-game region slate and that wants to get to Columbus for the Elite Eight, something tells us all hands will be on deck in the playoffs.

Who’s next: The winner will play the North Gwinnett-Archer winner.
