Lambert’s boys tennis team advanced to the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Collins Hill on Tuesday at Lambert.
The No. 1 seeded Longhorns picked up wins from Jake Bouchillon (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1 singles, Lincoln Metz (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Douglass and Andrew Hemings (6-2, 6-1).
The No. 1 doubles team of Drew Lahey and Kevin Mayer were winning (4-6, 6-4, 5-1) when the Longhorns clinched, while Eric Devries lost 2-6, 5-7 at No. 2 singles.
"I thought we played pretty well," Lambert head coach Eric Hampton said.
"With team tennis you can have days where maybe one or two guys have a down day and they’re picked up by someone else, and that’s kind of what happened yesterday."
Lambert will face either Grayson or Milton in the second round.
Lambert (girls) 3, Norcross 1
Lambert’s girls cruised through the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Norcross on Tuesday at Sharon Springs Park.
The No. 1-seeded Lady Longhorns picked up wins from Karlee Bryde (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, Caroline Wakefield (6-2, 6-4) at No. 3 singles and Morgan Adams and Jessica Owen (6-4, 6-0) at No. 1 doubles.
"We were hoping to get past the first round," Lambert assistant coach Ali Conley said. "We have a strong team and are hopeful for [Thursday’s] match. Norcross was tough competition, but we felt pretty comfortable."
Lambert will square off against Roswell in the second round.
