Northview at North Forsyth

When, where: Friday, 7:30 pm, at Raider Valley in Coal Mountain.

Records, rankings: Northview is 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; North is 0-2, 0-1 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked.

Series history: North leads 3-1.

Last meeting: Northview won 39-13 in 2011.

What to know: Northview quarterback DJ Pearson, an Arkansas State commit, could pose problems for the Raiders. Pearson threw for three scores and ran for another in the Titans’ Aug. 29 rout of Duluth and led Northview to a 41-0 win over Habersham Central last Friday. North’s defense allowed passing touchdowns of 73 and 21 yards in Friday’s loss to Chattahoochee. The Titans sacked Duluth quarterbacks seven times in the opener, though Northview’s front seven will get a different test against North’s run-heavy double-wing. Josh Moran notched a 66-yard punt return touchdown against Duluth and had another touchdown return erased because of a penalty.

North head coach Jason Galt called the Raiders’ game against Chattahoochee last Friday a must-win, but North is now at risk of starting 0-3 with two region losses after beginning the last two seasons 3-0 and 4-0. The Raiders’ Jeffrey Rice scored on a 1-yard run last Friday and Zac Slaton’s 5-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter drew North even, but a Chattahoochee field goal with 55 seconds remaining doomed Galt’s team to a losing region start. According to the Maxwell projections compiled each week by the Georgia High School Football Daily, the Raiders are four-point home underdogs.
