North Forsyth wrestling swept an Area 6-AAAAAA tri-match Wednesday at home.
North (26-2) had a come-from-behind 34-33 win over area rival Chattahoochee and held off county rival South for a 39-20 win.
The Raiders trailed Chattahoochee 34-12 but finished the match strong. Jacob Nash won by technical fall at 126 pounds, Luke Slaton and Ara Johnson got pins at 132 and 138, respectively, and Shane Cross won an 11-3 major decision at 145 to cut the Cougars’ lead to 34-33.
During Cross’s match, Chattahoochee was penalized a point for bench misconduct, tying the score at 33-33. North earned the first tiebreaker with the fewest misconduct calls to secure the dual.
The Raiders then promptly lost their first three matches against South’s Bryan Troye (160), Tyler Crawford (170) and River Faulkner (182) and led just 21-20 going into the final four weight classes.
But North responded. Slaton got a pin, Johnson and Cross got decisions and Hipolito Perez got a pin at 152 to close out the match.
The Raiders and War Eagles return to action tonight at the Santa Slams hosted by South.
