2022 GYMNASTICS PREVIEW: Team-by-team capsules

Forsyth Central

Head coach: Chris Woodall

Key returners: Avery Weis, So.; Natalie Knight, Elena Clarke, Hannah Woodall, Lydia Kimsey, Ashlyn Scanlon.

Key newcomers: Katie Andrews, Fr.

What to know: Forsyth Central captured the county championship on Saturday behind a strong all-around performance by freshman Katie Andrews, helping the Bulldogs to their first title since 2016. Central won the event without one of its top returners in Avery Weis, who finished third all-around at last year's county meet. Additionally, Ashley Scanlon finished seventh in the state last season with her floor routine. The Bulldogs do not have any seniors this season, and head coach Chris Woodall said one of the team's goals is to focus on "the small things that can be done to improve as athletes and individuals."

Head coach: Kaylee Satterfield

Key returners: Ava Balzano, So.

Key newcomers: Gracie Carroll, Jr.

What to know: Denmark graduated last year's Forsyth County News Gymnast of the Year Emma Davies, but the Danes return several athletes capable of putting up high scores. Sophomore Ava Balzano scored a nine or higher in three events Saturday at the county meet, while head coach Kaylee Satterfield expects junior Gracie Carroll to be a power on floor.
