22 track and field athletes qualify for state meet

All five of Forsyth County’s high schools that compete in the top two classifications of the GHSA will be represented at the state track meets in the coming days. Girls will compete at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, starting Thursday and ending Saturday, while the boys will travel to Memorial Stadium in Jefferson next Thursday. Twenty-two total athletes will represent Forsyth schools at state after placing eighth or better at sectionals last week.

Forsyth Central at AAAAA Sectionals

Sophomore Taliyah Manning led the way for Central, breaking a school record that lasted since 1993 with a second place finish in the discus throw (111-5), while also qualifying with an eighth place result of 34-1.25 in the shot put. Neo Wilde also set a school record with a fifth place finish in the long jump (17-6.25). For the boys, Nico Seaton snuck into state with an eighth place time of 1:59.95 in the 800 meter run.

Lambert at AAAAAA Sectionals

Jonathan Schwind placed first in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:21.61, and placed eighth in the 3,200 meter run (9:31.63), while Mason Lord placed first in pole vault (13-06) to lead Lambert on the boys side. Dominiq Delisser, Ryann Dickerson, Ashley Johnson, Amanda Clarke, Katie Schwind and Julia Parks combined to give Lambert sixth place in the 4x400 relay. Clarke also finished, along with Reagan Posinski, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the high jump with 5-0 scores. Taylor Oakley finished eighth in the triple jump with a score of 34-11.

South Forsyth at AAAAAA Sectionals

Savannah Carnahan showed off her endurance, finishing second and fifth in the 3,200 and 1,600 meter runs, respectively, with times of 10:58.79 and 5:02.12. Freshman Kaylee DuPont finished fourth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:01.75, while also placing third in the 800 meter run (2:18.22). Milicent Bergey also placed fifth in the 800 meter run at 2:18.69. In the high jump, Ally Welch scored seventh at 5-0.

West Forsyth at AAAAAA Sectionals
Courtney Canady placed in three different categories for West, finishing sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.85), eighth in the 300 meter hurdles (47.18) and eighth in the long jump (16-8.75). Liz Galarza finished seventh in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:11.42. For the boys, John Green placed fourth and third in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs, respectively, with times of 4:22.89 and 9:30.08.

North Forsyth at AAAAAA Sectionals

Marcus Alvarez placed seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.53, while Coleton Holzer came in sixth in the high jump at 6-0.
