North Georgia at Horizon Christian
When, where: Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at Bennett Park in Cumming.
Records: North Georgia is 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the region; Horizon is 2-6 and 1-2.
Last meeting: North Georgia won 28-21 in 2011.
What to know: Horizon fans, get ready for Scott Richards. The junior running back has rushed for 1,105 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 99 carries, an absurd 11.2 yards per carry. Last week, in North Georgia’s 50-21 victory over East Atlanta, Richards ran for 265 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. In fact, he’s eclipsed 200-yards rushing in each of the Falcons’ past three games – all wins, no surprise. But to focus on Richards might diminish North Georgia’s other weapons. Running backs CJ Washington (402 yards, six touchdowns) and David Richards (366 yards, seven touchdowns) average 10.3 and 10.8 yards per carry, respectively.
On defense, Bailey Banner leads North Georgia with 108 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Freshman Daniel Lazadle has nine sacks. It’s an opportunistic unit that has recovered 15 fumbles this season, meaning Horizon running backs Travis Pittman and James Kimbrough and quarterback John Michael Booth need to minimize turnovers. The Warriors will also have to do better against the pass than they did in last week’s 44-0 loss to King’s Academy. Horizon gave up 231 yards and three touchdowns through the air on just four completions.
