The Forsyth County News is pleased to announce the hire of Foster Lander to cover local sports.

Lander joined the FCN’s award-winning sports section this week as it prepares for another season as the leader of high school sports coverage in the county.

"I’m looking forward to getting to know the coaches and players in this county and to telling their stories, both on and off the field, that matter to those who read the FCN," Lander said. "Forsyth County boasts strong teams in just about every sport there is to play, so I should never be short on ideas."

A recent graduate of the University of Georgia, Lander already has experience covering Georgia prep sports. He’s written in-depth pieces on Miller Grove’s accomplished boys basketball coach, Sharman White, and on social media’s impact on high school football recruiting.

An Atlanta native who graduated from The Galloway School, Lander graduated from UGA with a degree in journalism with magazine emphasis. While at UGA, he was a sports communications student assistant with the athletic association helping coordinate game-day coverage of football, soccer and women’s basketball.

Lander will help the FCN tell the story about the county’s local athletes, teams and communities.

"I’m passionate about journalism because there’s a new story to tell every day," Lander said. "I’m constantly on the hunt for that one moment, one quote or one play and for that one piece of news that nobody else has. I look forward to covering practices and games in person so that I’m not just a name in the paper."
