Gymnastics: Three county teams advance to state meet from prelims

The Denmark and West Forsyth gymnastics teams finished second overall in their divisions at the state gymnastics preliminary meet on Saturday in Buford, qualifying them for the state meet this coming Friday at Ola High School in McDonough, the Danes in Class 1-5A and the Wolverines in Class 6-7A. Lambert also qualified as a team, finishing third in the larger classification. 

The Wolverines, the defending state champion, finished second to Newnan with 111.400 team points. The Longhorns were close behind with 110.950. In the smaller classification, the Danes scored 108.875 points, behind North Oconee.

The county had a number of standout individual performers during the meet as well. Denmark's Chase Brock won the Class 1-5A all-around with a score of 38.450, and the Danes' Sarah Wilson was third with 37.900. Lambert's Brianna Greenlow won the all-around in the larger classification with 38.350, while West's Ella Castellanos was third with 37.500 and the Wolverines' Olivia Blakely was fifth with 37.400. 

Forsyth Central and South Forsyth also competed in the meet, but both failed to qualify as a team.
