What to know: Consider where Horizon Christian was just four years ago when the Warriors didn’t have enough to players to field a team. Now, Horizon is playing for the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association Division II state championship.

The Warriors earned their place on this stage with a gutsy 20-14 victory against Dawson Christian Academy last Saturday at home. Horizon was clinging to a 14-6 lead with less than five minutes remaining when sophomore Peter Oh blocked a punt and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. Warriors quarterback Jacob Grinstead passed for 62 yards and ran for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Clark Garland and Cole Brown combined for five sacks, while Brown forced two fumbles.

Horizon gets a familiar foe in the state final, a Johnson Ferry Christian team it lost to 20-7 back in mid-October. The Warriors were dominated in that game, managing just 115 total yards of offense and falling behind 20-0 in the third quarter. Johnson Ferry ran 78 plays to just 37 for Horizon Christian, and the Warriors were held to 1 of 7 on third-down conversions.
