PREP ROUNDUP: Central, West earn sweeps to open basketball season

Forsyth Central took down Blessed Trinity on Tuesday, 77-43, to open the season.

The Bulldogs (1-0) will host Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

West Forsyth 82, Mill Creek 76 (OT)

West Forsyth outlasted Mill Creek in overtime Tuesday, 82-76.

Junior Broc Bidwell led the Wolverines with 27 points, adding seven steals, five rebounds and three assists. West had four players finish in double-digits, including seniors Sterling Johnson (13), Nick Zabetakis (11) and Jack Bock (10). Senior Zack Zabetakis led the Wolverines on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds. 

West (1-0) has its home opener at 6 p.m. Thursday versus Northview. 

Johns Creek 62, South Forsyth 53

South Forsyth opened the 2019-20 season Tuesday with a 62-53 loss to Johns Creek. 

The War Eagles (0-1) will host Centennial at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. 

Marist 49, Pinecrest 45

Pinecrest suffered a 49-45 setback Tuesday against Marist. 

Sophomore Tony Carpio led the Paladins with nine points.

Pinecrest (1-1) will travel to Lovett on Nov. 21 for a 7:30 p.m. tip. 


Forsyth Central 69, Blessed Trinity 54

Forsyth Central started its season Tuesday with a 69-54 win against Blessed Trinity. 

Junior Elizabeth Pruitt highlighted the Bulldogs' win, picking up a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Aisha Dabo led Central with 19 points, while senior Tese Ajorgbor had 13 and sophomore Jillian Bretz chipped in 11. 

Central (1-0) will host Gainesville at 6 p.m. Friday.

West Forsyth 46, Mill Creek 40

West Forsyth won its opener Tuesday, beating Mill Creek on the road 46-40.

Sophomore Kalie Thrower scored a team-high 21 points and fellow sophomore Cayla Cowart added 12. 

The Wolverines (1-0) kick off their home slate at 6 p.m. Thursday against Northview.

South Forsyth 56, Johns Creek 46

South Forsyth picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, topping Johns Creek 56-46 in the opener.

Senior Ashley Breindl led the War Eagles with 20 points. 

South (1-0) will host Centennial at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
