PREP ROUNDUP: Denmark baseball clinches a playoff spot; Lambert girls soccer completes perfect regular season

South Forsyth 4, Lambert 0

The War Eagles blanked the Longhorns in their season finale on Thursday behind solid performances by the pitching duo of Steven Thompson and Peyton Presley. Thompson struck out seven over his 5 2/3 innings on the mound, allowing all four of Lambert’s hits. Aided by three errors, the War Eagles scored one run in each of the game’s first four innings, which was enough to end their season with a win. Lambert’s Braden Bamburowski went 2-for-3 at the plate and took the loss on the hill, allowing five hits and one earned run over four innings. South ends its season at 12-16 overall with a 5-10 record in Region 5-7A. Lambert, who finished fourth in the standings with a 6-9 region mark, will travel to Grayson for the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday.

Denmark 6, White County 1

The Danes extended their Region 7-4A winning streak to four with their victory over the Warriors on Thursday. Denmark started strong with an RBI triple from Jack Kream in the first inning, followed by a two-run home run from Matthew Cassandra that made it 3-0. The Danes were in command from that point, with starter Jack Whitlock only allowing one run with five strikeouts over his complete-game effort. The win gave the Danes, who are set to play their last region game against West Hall on Saturday, a potential tiebreaker over Chestatee, and clinched them the No. 4 state playoff seed out of the region. Denmark will travel to face Northwest Whitfield, the No. 1 seed from Region 6-4A, on Wednesday.


Lambert 6, Harrison 0

Lambert’s boys ended their regular season with a decisive win over the Hoyas on Thursday, improving their overall record to 16-1-1 heading into the playoffs. The Longhorns will host Rockdale County for their first round matchup on Wednesday.

Forsyth Central 3, Sequoyah 1

Central improved to 12-5 overall with its road win against Sequoyah on Thursday. The Bulldogs, the No. 3 seed from Region 5-7A, will travel to face Archer for their first round playoff matchup on Wednesday.

Denmark 2, West Forsyth 1

The Danes ended their season with an in-county win on Thursday to finish 5-11-1 overall in their inaugural year. Denmark scored a goal in each half, courtesy of Shayahn Mirfendereski and Ruben Camacho. The Wolverines scored one in the second half, but were not able to net the equalizer. West ended its season at 0-13-2.


Lambert 4, Harrison 0

The Longhorns wrapped up a perfect regular season against Harrison on Thursday, improving their record to 18-0. Lambert will face South Gwinnett at home in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday.

Forsyth Central 2, Sequoyah 2

The Bulldogs battled to their only draw of the season on Thursday, putting their overall record at 8-8-1 to end the regular season. As the No. 4 seed out of Region 5-7A, they’ll travel to Rockdale County for the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday.


Milton 11, South Forsyth 10

South took a close loss to the Eagles on Thursday to drop their overall record to 11-5 and their area record to 3-1.

Forsyth Central 10, North Forsyth 9

The Bulldogs took a narrow area win over the Raiders on Thursday, improving to 2-3 in area play and 10-5 overall. North dropped to 7-9 overall and 0-5 in area play.

Greater Atlanta Christian 15, Denmark 2

Denmark fell soundly to the Spartans on Thursday, dropping to 2-3 in its area slate and 5-6 overall.


Lambert 14, McIntosh 6

The Longhorns got back over .500 on Thursday with their win over the Chiefs on Thursday. They now stand at 8-7 overall.

Lassiter 10, West Forsyth 6

The Wolverines took their sixth loss in their last seven games on Thursday, falling to the Trojans on the road. West still leads the area standings with a 4-0 record and an 8-6-2 overall mark.
