PREP ROUNDUP: Pinecrest baseball gets back in win column; Lambert boys soccer finally finishes off Central

Pinecrest Academy 4, St. Francis 2

After falling to St. Francis on Friday to end a six-game winning streak, Pinecrest bounced back on Monday with a comeback win on the road, as the Paladins trailed 2-1 in the top of the seventh but put up three runs that frame to secure the win. Mason Carter had two hits, including a double, for Pinecrest, and Patrick O'Rourke threw a complete game for the win. Pinecrest recaptured a winning record with the win, moving to 7-6. 

Blessed Trinity 3, Denmark 2; Marist 11, Denmark 6

The Danes fell on Saturday in close fashion for the second straight time to the nationally-ranked Titans. Denmark held Blessed Trinity to just one hit, with Dalton Hansard throwing seven innings with nine strikeouts and five walks, but two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and passed ball were enough for the Titans to hold on.

In another region matchup on Monday, the Danes held a 6-4 lead over the War Eagles heading into the top of the sixth inning, but two runs in that frame tied the game heading into the the seventh, where Marist got five more to stretch the lead. Denmark managed its six runs off just four hits, drawing 10 walks as a team, and Jack Kream led Denmark with two singles. Denmark dropped to 5-10, 0-3 with the loss.

Milton 4, South Forsyth 1

South held a 1-0 lead through the top of the fifth inning on Monday, with Peyton Presley and Milton's Dylan Matela dueling through that stretch, but the Eagles got two runs off Presley in the fifth and two more off Chris Dougherty in the sixth to grab the win. The War Eagles were held to just two hits on the night and fell to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in Region 5-7A.

Milton 5, West Forsyth 3

The Wolverines almost dug themselves out of a 4-0 deficit on Saturday, but they fell just short against the Eagles. Matthew Strzelecki, Drew Southern and Miller Jones each had two hits for the Wolverines.

Lambert 3, North Forsyth 2

After North took down the Longhorns on a walk-off lst Wednesday, Lambert returned the favor on Saturday. The Raiders took an early lead in the game, going up 2-0 in the fourth, but the Longhorns responded with a pair in the bottom of the frame, and that margin held through seven innings. Garrett Hollenbeck wound up breaking the deadlock and walking it off with a single in the eighth.


West Forsyth 14, North Forsyth 4

The Wolverines blanked the Raiders in the second half to bounce back from last Friday's loss to South and improve to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in region play. Sam Tuck led West with four goals and an assist. North dropped to 5-4, 0-3 with the loss.

Pinecrest 13, North Oconee 6

The Paladins topped the Titans on Monday night to improve to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the region. 


Denmark 16, Collins Hill 5

The Danes snapped a six-game losing streak with a convincing win over the Eagles on the road on Monday, moving to 2-6 overall in the process.


Lambert 2, Forsyth Central 1

In a game that was first scheduled to be played almost three weeks ago, the Longhorns finally prevailed on Monday, picking up the action late in the second half after it was suspended due to storms last Friday. 

Lambert had scored less than three minutes into the game on Friday, with Yeonsung Lee slotting home the goal, but Central’s Anthony Grasso equalized on a penalty kick before halftime. After its resumption on Monday, the game went into overtime before Hayden Fontana scored to give Lambert the victory. 

The Longhorns improved to 9-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in region play with the win, and Central dropped to 7-3-0, 3-2-0.
