M.L. King 10, Pinecrest Academy 2: The Paladins’ three-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday in a non-region game on the road.

Pinecrest fell to 5-5 overall.

Ryan McCarthy drove both of the Paladins’ runs, while John Crone had a team-high two hits.

But Pinecrest couldn’t overcome a 6-run first inning by M.L. King, a team in Region 5-AAAAA.


North Forsyth 183, Forsyth Central 188: Battling cold and windy conditions, the Raiders managed to get a non-region victory Wednesday at the Hampton Golf Village.

North improved to 3-1 overall.

Zac Connely led the Raiders with a 7-over par 43. Lewis Lester shot 45, Ethan House shot 46 and Noah Evans shot 47.


North Forsyth 148, Forsyth Central 168:  Led by a freshman, the Lady Raiders got to a non-region victory Wednesday at home.

North improved to 5-1 overall.

Freshman Maggie Sullens led the Lady Raiders with a 44. Senior Sam Metzger shot a 50 and senior Brittanie Bagwell shot a 54.

Central’s Hannah Walker had the low score of the day with a 41. Kayla Bennett shot 61 and Grace Edwards shot 66.

Lambert beats St. Pius X: The Lady Longhorns cruised to a Region 6-AAAAAA victory Wednesday at Laurel Springs.

Lambert improved to 3-0 overall.

Despite cold and windy conditions, the Lady Longhorns won by 47 strokes.


Lambert 5, South Forsyth 0: The Longhorns dominated a county and Region 6-AAAAAA rival Wednesday at home.

Lambert improved to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the region.

Drew Lahey led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Will Harper and Kevin Mayer won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

Zach Copman and John Pastore won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles for the Longhorns, while Shane Cristiano and Yotam Stern won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

The win for Lambert came on the heels of a 5-0 win over North on Tuesday.

Forsyth Central 3, Kell 2: The Bulldogs got revenge Wednesday against a Longhorns team that knocked them out of state tournament contention last season.

Central improved to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the region.

Michael Fink won at No 3 singles in straight sets and Joe Bieler and Cameron Hand won at No. 1 doubles in straight sets.

But the match came down to Tyler Baldwin and Hugo Marquez at No. 2 doubles. After dropping the first set, Baldwin and Marquez responded by winning the next two sets to clinch the match.

The win followed Central’s 5-0 win over Sprayberry at home on Tuesday.


South almost sweeps meet: The War Eagles came close to sweeping a mid-week home meet Wednesday.

South’s girls team tied Lambert with 121 points, while the boys team had 137 points to finish ahead of Lambert (111).

The Lady War Eagles’ Megan Beaty won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, while Ally Welch won the high jump and shot put.

The Lady Longhorns countered with Lucy Calhoun who won the 100 and 200 and Samantha Hardy who won the 400 and 800.

Pinecrest Academy’s Jessica Zalzman won the 3,200.

South’s boys won thanks to a strong performance in the field events. The War Eagles won four of the six events, led by Griffin Landrum who won the discus and finished second in the shot put.

Luke St. Laurent shined for Lambert winning the 100 and 200, while the Longhorns won the 400 and 1,600 relays.
