PREP ROUNDUP: North volleyball sweeps at home; Lambert softball wins in late comeback
North volleyball tops Cambridge, Hillgrove; South falls in three sets to Alpharetta; Central wins opener over Chestatee

The North Forsyth volleyball team won two matches on Tuesday, topping Cambridge 2-1 and Hillgrove 2-0 at home.

Mary Ellen Enright led the Raiders on offense in the two matches, notching seven kills in the first and 11 in the second, as well as serving seven aces against Hillgrove. Kate Perryman was close behind in kills, with 14 total, and had two solo blocks against the Hawks. Anna Grace Cheatham had 20 assists against Cambridge.


South Forsyth fell to defending Class 6A runner-up Alpharetta on Wednesday, 25-13, 25-23, 25-12. Molly Bergin had 10 kills and 10 digs for the War Eagles, and Nyah Pacely had 21 assists.


Forsyth Central opened its season with a 3-1 win over Chestatee on Tuesday. Kaitlin Stokes had 10 kills to lead the Bulldogs, Ashley Olsen had 10 digs, and freshman Emma Kiser had 33 assists.

West, Lambert softball beat Brookwood; North tops Cambridge on Wednesday after losing two prior

The West Forsyth softball team won its second game in a row after dropping three straight to start the year, beating Brookwood 5-1 on Wednesday.

Hannah Guthrie threw five scoreless innings for the Wolverines, allowing three hits and striking out four. Gracie Martin had two hits for the Wolverines, including a double, and Kelsey Schell also had a two-bagger.


North Forsyth fell 6-3 to Mill Creek on Tuesday and 7-5 to Peachtree Ridge on Wednesday before bouncing back with a 12-1 victory over Cambridge on Wednesday.

The Raiders had nine hits against the Hawks, including a home run from Anslee Anderson, but were done in by the Hawks’ four-run second inning. North led Peachtree Ridge 4-1 heading into fifth inning, but two three-run frames by the Lions send the Raiders to a 5-1 defeat.

North rapped out 12 hits, including three doubles and a triple, against Cambridge to get back in the win column. Sara Lowe had a complete-game win in that contest, allowing three hits and a run in five innings.


Lambert rebounded from a two-game skid on Wednesday, scoring five runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 4-0 deficit and top Brookwood 5-4 on the road. Ansley Dean led the Longhorns with two hits, including a double, and Brooke Miller threw six innings, allowing five hits and four runs, to get the complete-game win for Lambert.
