South Forsyth boys cross country had four runners in the top 25 out of over 180 to capture the Pickens Preview on Saturday.
The War Eagles captured the meet with 67 points, ahead of Milton (80). West Forsyth came in fifth with 124 points while Forsyth Central was eighth (260) and North Forsyth was 10th (342).
South was led by sophomore Ryan Peppenhorst who finished second in 16 minutes 58.12 seconds. Zach Coleman finished 10th (17:36.19), Jake Howlin finished 15th (17:46.79), Trevor Kane finished 24th (18:04.13) and Matt Patterson finished 26th (18:07.99).
Leaders for West were John Green (14th, 17:44.26), Brian Skoglind (18th, 17:56.73), Brett Gammon (18:03.84), Austin Shea (40th, 18:32.80) and Brandon LaBour (18:48.53).
Central was led by Max Warner, who finished eighth in 17:30.97. The Bulldogs also got strong finished from Will Scott (53rd, 18:50.93), Charlie Webb (64th, 18:58.84), Cole Gizelbach (77th, 19:13.15) and Joseph Rank (82nd, 19:21.31).
North was led by Eric Decker (47th, 18:41.97), Saul Renteria (69th, 19:02.25), Ben Cochran (72nd, 19:06.40), Brady Roose (96th, 19:35.45) and Aaron Bohan (100th, 19:39.15).
South, West girls impress at Pickens
The Lady War Eagles and Lady Wolverines finished second and third, respectively, out of 19 teams at the Pickens Preview at Pickens High School on Saturday.
South came up just five points shy of meet winner Milton (73) with 78 points, which was six better than West (84). North Forsyth finished in 12th with 277.
Bonnie McKinnon was the lone from Forsyth Central. She came in 19th in 21:43.67.
South had five runners in the top 30 out of over 160 runners, led by Savannah Carnahan who finished third in 20:06.57 and Millie Bergey who finished fifth in 20:18.87. Other leaders for South were Savannah Ratcliff (18th, 21:40.70), Emma Maisel (27th, 22:05.21) and Natalie Smithson (30th, 22:08.30).
West was led by Liz Galarza (9th, 20:45.26), Julie Ericson (10th, 20:49.21), Haley Anderson (13th, 21:07.42), Kim Gibson (26th, 21:56.89) and Kaitlyn Griffith (31st, 22:08.81).
Leaders for North were Julianne Oliver (47th, 22:40.66), Gigi Fulkerson (49th, 22:45.30), Ellie Cochran (62nd, 23:16.12), Brittany Smith (68th, 23:38.95) and Madison Booher (89th, 24:36.3).
Lambert finishes strong at home meet
The Longhorns girls and boys cross country teams had impressive showings at the Longhorns Invitational at Chattahoochee Point Park on Saturday.
The Lambert girls finished second with 55 points behind winner Centennial (28) and got strong performances from Mae McKenna (eighth, 21:23.05), Megan Gianini (10th, 21:38.57), Jamie Angle (21:43.38), Katherine Aikins (12th, 21:44.10) and Madeline Gilleland (14th, 21:55.26).
The Lambert boys finished fourth with 114 points behind Centennial (44), Johns Creek (67) and Archer (105). The Longhorns were led by Noah Schiach who finished second in 17:22.33. Other leaders for Lambert were Sean Langley (27th, 18:59.50), Hank Grogan (32nd, 10:09.91), Robert Tam (19:17.09) and Byron Grogan (19:35.46).
The Lady Raiders swept a tri-match at Lumpkin County on Saturday.
North defeated Gilmer in three sets and East Hall 25-7, 26-24.
Okwunne Ogbogo led the team in aces while Carlee Preznik led the team in kills.
West struggles at Brookwood
The Lady Wolverines went winless at the Brookwood Play Day on Saturday.
West (6-7) lost to Woodstock (19-25, 25-11, 15-12), Brookwood (25-14, 25-18), Buford (23-25, 25-10, 15-6) and Mill Creek (25-15, 25-19).
West leaders for the tournament were Jaz Berry(22 kills, nine digs), Shelby Lance (14 kills, seven blocks), Jordan Leitch (36 assists, eight kills), Gabby Bachner (22 assists), and Chloe Tyler and Alyssa Robertson who had 19 digs each.
