PREP ROUNDUP: South cross country continues hot start to season, wins trophy at Wingfoot Classic

The South Forsyth cross country program won the Wingfoot Cross Country Cup on Saturday in Cartersville, with both the girls and boys programs finishing third overall in their respective races at the Wingfoot Cross Country Classic, the best all-around result of any program competing in the meet.

The girls team finished third with 185 points, behind second-place Marist and first-place Marietta, the defending Class 7A state champion. Madelynne Cadeau was the War Eagles’ top individual finisher, coming in ninth in 19:01.

The boys team totaled 263 points, behind second-place Brentwood Academy of Tennessee and first-place Pope. Michael Patterson was the War Eagles’ top individual finisher, placing 13th overall in 16:24.

Lambert was the other county team to compete in the meet, finishing 10th in the girls race and 13th in the boys race. Caroline Gaharan was the Longhorns’ top girls finisher, coming in 44th in 19:59, and Cooper Bocko was the top boys placer, in 17th in 16:31.

Forsyth Central’s Calan Gizelbach competed as an individual and had the best individual time of any county athlete, finishing third in 15:54, behind East Coweta’s Kyle Harkabus and Starrs Mill’s Nick Nyman.


Denmark competed in the Winder-Barrow Invite on Saturday, with the Danes’ boys team finishing sixth overall and the girls finishing ninth. Ethan Ashley finished seventh in the three-mile race in 15:51.29, and Karthik Kochuparambil was 11th in 16:17.61. Kendall Hilyer was the Danes’ top finisher in the girls race, coming in 13th in 20:51.97.
