PREP ROUNDUP: South softball ends North's streak

South Forsyth softball jumped in front early and never looked back in route to a 7-3 victory Thursday at North Forsyth in a Region 6-AAAAAA game.

Bianca Mora led the Lady War Eagles going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Emily Harris went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Natalie Strandquist went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Meghan Rud went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two stolen bases.

Katherine Huey allowed six hits, four walks and three earned runs while striking out six in six innings to earn the win.

Sydner Turner led North going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Breena Gwaltney was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Jenna Zirlott went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Lambert 5, West Forsyth 2: The Lady Longhorns used a 4-run fifth inning and a great game by Kassie Howard to earn a Region 6-AAAAAA victory on the road.

Howard struck out a school-record 12 over seven innings allowing just three hits and one earned run for Lambert (10-1). She also helped herself at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Other leaders for the Lady Longhorns were Marissa Guimbarda (3-for-4, RBI), Jenny Barto (3-for-4, double, RBI), Megan Whitlach (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Macy Stovall (2-for-4).

Creekview 9, Forsyth Central 6: The Lady Bulldogs blew a 5-run first-inning lead and lost a Region 7-AAAAA game on the road.

Forsyth Central (5-5) got out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning. The Lady Bulldogs led 6-1 after the second, but Creekview came back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Rachel Karlan led the Central going 3-for-4 with a double. Marissa Hull went 3-for-4 with a double and Alexa Hull was 2-for-4.


Lambert gets healthy and sweeps: Autumn Harrington and Savannah Oaks returned from injury and helped the Lady Longhorns sweep a tri-match against Mill Creek (11-25, 25-23, 26-24) and Northview (23-25, 25-12, 29-27).

Harrington led Lambert (6-8) with 19 kills, Oaks had 17 kills while Brie Lancaster had 20 assists and Jordan Mollering had 16 assists.

South sweeps state powers: The Lady War Eagles got an impressive pair of victories over two of Georgia’s top teams on the road.

South (17-2) defeated Marist (26-24, 25-22) and Blessed Trinity (25-18, 22-25, 25-20).

The Lady War Eagles were led by Taylor Svehla (20 kills), Hannah Shanley (14 kills, 23 digs), Rachel Croce (13 kills), Jordan Hawk (13 kills), Tory Wright (24 digs, five assists) and Kelli McCravy (57 assists, 11 digs).

West earns pair of wins: The Lady Wolverines went on the road for a pair of non-area victories against Decatur (25-17, 25-19) and Tucker (25-10, 29-27).

Jaz Berry led West (10-9) with 13 kills. Shelby Lance had 10 kills and 10 assists, Rebecca Boeh had five kills, Alyssa Robertson had 19 digs and Jordan Leitch had 19 assists and four aces.

Central salvages match: The Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in a non-area tri-match at Mountain View.

Forsyth Central lost to Milton (25-10, 25-17) and Mountain View (25-11, 25-17) before defeating South Gwinnett (23-25, 25-21, 25-23).

Sarah Gore led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 kills and seven aces.
