South sweeps team titles at Lambert River Run

The South Forsyth boys and girls cross country teams both took team titles at the Lambert River Run cross country meet on Saturday at Chattahoochee Point Park. The War Eagles boys topped second-place Lambert by 14 points, and the girls were 16 points ahead of second-place Creekview.

North Forsyth’s Caleb Hall took first overall in the boys race, finishing in 16:13.76. South’s Michael Patterson, Lambert’s Cooper Bocko and South’s Sean Catania finished second through fourth, respectively.

South Forsyth’s Madelynne Cadeau was the county’s top individual finisher in the girls race, coming in second in 18:42.66. Lambert’s Caroline Gaharan was third, and South’s Aleesa de Castro came in fourth.

Every county school competed in the event. In the boys standings, South was first, Lambert was second, West Forsyth was third, Forsyth Central was ninth, North was 10th, Denmark was 13th and Pinecrest Academy was 15th. In the girls race, South was first, Lambert was third, West was fourth, North was ninth, Denmark was 11th and Pinecrest was 13th.

South Forsyth All-City Challenge brings top competition to county volleyball teams

The South Forsyth, Lambert, North Forsyth and West Forsyth volleyball teams each played four matches on Saturday at the South Forsyth All-City Challenge, which brought powerhouse programs like Lassiter, East Coweta and defending state champion Walton to South’s gym.

South won two of its four matches, beating Buford and Dunwoody in two sets before bring swept by Lassiter and Walton. Molly Bergin had nine kills against Dunwoody, and Phoebe Dean had 16 assists in that match.

Lambert won one of its four matches, topping Blessed Trinity in three sets before losing to St. Pius X, Walton and Lassiter in two. The Longhorns gave the latter two schools some of their toughest fights of the day, pushing a set in each match to 26 points. Walton still has yet to drop a set this season.

West fell in two sets to Lassiter, Lovett and East Coweta and beat Marist in three sets, and North swept North Cobb and lost to Westminster, Dunwoody and Alpharetta.


Forsyth Central won four matches on Saturday at the Aloha Bash at Brookwood High, taking down Collins Hill, Berkmar and Loganville Christian in two sets and beating Dacula in three. The Bulldogs, who improved to 6-2 on the year with the wins, have already eclipsed their win total from the entirety of last season, when they finished 4-29.

West softball takes two wins on Saturday

The West Forsyth softball team, coming off a week in which it lost its first two games of the region schedule, bounced back with victories over Parkview, 2-1, and Bremen, 9-3, on Saturday.

Against the Panthers, Hannah Guthrie and Avery Wassilchak combined in the circle to limit the Panthers to five hits, and Grace Mangan led the Wolverines with three knocks of her own, including an RBI. Against Bremen, Madison Michael and Maria Luce combined for the win in the circle, and Kelsey Schell led the Wolverines with three hits, along with two RBIs.
