PREP ROUNDUP: West baseball edges Collins Hill

West Forsyth baseball brought the bats out in a 9-7 victory Monday at Collins Hill in a non-region game.

The Wolverines (5-1) were led by junior outfielder Alec Wilson who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Junior catcher Chris Cullen was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Mason McWorter went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Paxton Spessard was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Junior Addison Albright earned the win, while McWorter earned the save.


Lambert 20, Mountain View 5: The Lady Longhorns followed a stellar weekend tournament with a dominating win Monday at home.

Lambert (4-0) was led by freshman Peyton Smith who scored five goals. Sophomore Molly Walz added four goals while senior Danielle Dollar had one goal and three assists.

The win came off the heels of a big performance at the Gwinnett Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Buford. The Lady Longhorns won their bracket with wins against Brookwood (16-2), Decatur (21-4) and Dunwoody (21-2).

West Forsyth 16, Riverwood 2: The Lady Wolverines cruised Monday to a non-region win on the road.

West was led by Monica Martelli who scored five goals. Erika Cross and Kelly Gutherie added three goals each, Sarah Grady scored two goals and Peyton Erb, Channing Milford and McKinley Puckett each had one goal.

Goalkeeper Kara Duclos had four saves.


Forsyth Central 4, Lumpkin County 1: The Bulldogs cruised Monday to a non-region win at home.

Central got wins from Mike Fink at No. 1 singles, Riley Snow at No. 2 singles, Joe Bieler and Hugo Marquez at No. 1 doubles and Cameron Hand and Cameron Broeker at No. 2 doubles.

The Bulldogs were without regular starters at No. 1 singles in Trent Callan and No. 2 doubles in Tyler Baldwin.

Lambert wins tournament: The Longhorns defeated Roswell 3-2 in the finals of the Peachtree City Invitational on Saturday.

Lambert advanced to the finals after wins against Eagle’s Landing (5-0), McIntosh (5-0) and Starr’s Mill (3-2).
