PREP ROUNDUP: West Forsyth volleyball wins Forsyth Challenge

Chloe Lance had 68 kills as West Forsyth won the Forsyth Challenge on Saturday for the second straight season.

The Lady Wolverines (11-4) outlasted Etowah in a wild championship match with a 29-27, 17-25, 19-17 victory.

West also defeated Gainesville (25-15, 25-22), Fellowship Christian (25-21, 25-9), Pinecrest Academy (25-20, 25-13), Flowery Branch (25-6, 25-15) and Dunwoody (26-24, 22-25, 15-9) during the tournament.

During the event, Lady Wolverines head coach Jake Dickey earned his 300th career victory.

Jordan Leitch led West with 126 assists to go along with 37 digs, 12 kills and seven aces. Taylor Ashcraft had 38 digs, 36 kills and nine aces. Savannah Butler had 28 kills, while Hannah Owens added 22 kills.

Other strong contibutors for West were Abbey Riggins (33 digs), Danielle Menningman (18 digs) and Emma Bernardez (13 digs, three aces).

North goes 2-2 at Forsyth Challenge

Bri Gilbert had 30 kills as the Lady Raiders split four matches at the Forsyth Challenge on Saturday.

North defeated King’s Ridge (25-15, 25-21) and Johnson (25-16, 25-12) and lost to Dunwoody (22-25, 25-19, 12-15) and Etowah (25-20, 8-25, 12-15).

Kailey Salazar and Kala Campbell combined for 51 digs.

Pinecrest goes 3-1 at Forsyth Challenge

Adeline Seiferth had 47 kills and the Lady Paladins went 3-1 on Saturday at the Forsyth Challenge.

Pinecrest (x-x) defeated Flowery Branch (25-18, 25-14), Forsyth Central (25-12, 25-22), Johnson (25-14, 25-10) and lost to Fellowship Christian (19-25, 25-23, 12-15).

The Lady Paladins also got strong performances from Gabby Wesemeyer (28 kills, 38 assists), Vanessa Fowler (74 assists, 12 aces), Caroline Clark (17 kills, nine blocks), Tessa Stubbs (14 kills, seven blocks), Annie Irlbeck (eight kills, four blocks) and Josie Sorohan (eight aces, 11 digs).

Central goes 0-3 at Forsyth Challenge

Amber Walsh had 34 digs but the Lady Bulldogs went 0-3 at the Forsyth Challenge on Saturday.

Central (4-5) lost to Dunwoody, Pinecrest Academy and North Hall.

Julia Jaison and Emma Gore led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills each. Jasion added 10 digs.

Other contributors for Central were Sarah Whittington (eight kills, 11 digs), Taylor Smallwood (six kills) and Morgan Liffers (12 digs).

FOOTBALL

Horizon Christian 26, Nathanael Greene 0

Jacob Grinstead passed for 135 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another as the Warriors dominated in a non-region game Saturday at home.

Grinstead ran from 1 yard out in the second quarter, then connected with wide receiver Ty Logan for both his touchdown passes in the third quarter, one for 3 yards and another for 44. Logan finished with 121 yards on three catches.

Dillon Taylor added a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

John Michael Booth rushed for 93 yards on nine carries.

Horizon (1-0) had 292 total yards of offense in three quarters of play, while the Warriors held Nathanael Greene to just 102 yards.

The game was called after the third quarter because of impending storms.

SOFTBALL

Central goes 2-1 in weekend action

Alexa Hull went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs as the Lady Bulldogs won two games in the Raider Round Robin on Saturday at North Forsyth.

Central defeated North Hall (12-5) and North Forsyth (3-2) and lost to Fannin County (10-1).

Sadie Waters went 5-for-8 with four runs scored on the day in the Lady Bulldogs’ victories, while Central also got big days from Marisa Hull (4-for-8, two RBI), Grace Kiser (2-for-6, two RBI) and Karah Straub (2-for-6, RBI).

Gina Fishler got the win on the mound against North Hall, allowing five runs on 11 hits and three walks over six innings. Brook Wade earned the victory against her former team North, allowing just two runs on six hits and four walks over seven complete innings.
