PREP ROUNDUP: West's Anderson thrives in tennis, track

Haley Anderson had quite a day for West Forsyth.

Anderson and partner Meg Moran won 6-3, 6-2 in their No. 2 doubles match to help the Lady Wolverines’ girls’ tennis team defeat Flowery Branch, 4-1, on Tuesday in a non-region match.

West improved to 4-0 this season.

Then Anderson left the match for a track meet the West hosted where she won the 400-meter dash, 800 and ran on the first-place 1600-relay team.

Emma Niemi won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for West, Caroline Connelly won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles Tara Harper won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Pinecrest Academy 5, Our Lady of Mercy 0: The Lady Paladins dominated Tuesday in a non-region match on the road.

Christina Aufleger, Claudia Szlek and Maggie Herd swept Nos. 1-3 singles, respectively, without dropping a point in 8-0 victories.

Catherine Birozes and Julieta Flores won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Kate Massengill and Natalie Parr won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.


Walton 1, West Forsyth 0: The Wolverines get toe-to-toe with the No. 2-ranked team in Class AAAAAA but came up just short Tuesday in a non-region game on the road.

West gave up the lone goal in the 86th minute off a throw-in.

The Wolverines dropped to 1-2.


Pinecrest Academy 4, Our Lady of Mercy 1: The Paladins cruise Tuesday to a non-region victory on the road.

Adam Rocko led the way for Pinecrest with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 singles.

Garrett Witt won 8-5 at No. 2 singles, John Paul Hoover won 8-6 at No. 3 singles and Juan Montero and Connor Irlbeck won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
