Lambert vs Lakeside-DeKalb

When, where: Saturday, 12:30 p.m. at Lambert High School in Suwanee.

Records: Lambert is 22-12 and 5-0 in Area 5-7A; Lakeside-DeKalb is 24-18 and 3-3 in Area 7-7A.

What to know: The Longhorns saw their perfect streak of set wins in Area 5-7A play come to an end in the championship against Milton, but after their slow start, Lambert came out on top as the area champion. Behind leaders like Ally Hall and Taylor Nelson, the Longhorns look to be a force in the playoffs, beginning with their matchup with Lakeside-DeKalb on Saturday. The Vikings have a lot of wins, but many of those came against inferior teams, and they couldn’t really stand up to the volleyball heavyweights in their area and around the state.

What’s next: The winner will play Lowndes or Hillgrove.

South Forsyth vs Norcross

When, where: Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at Camden County High School in Kingsland.

Records: South is 16-15 and 5-2 in Area 5-7A; Norcross is 37-7 and 6-0 in Area 7-7A.

What to know: The War Eagles came out of the Area 5-7A tournament with the No. 3 seed, and heading into the state playoffs, they’ll gladly welcome back kills leader Avery Svehla back into the lineup after she sat out the tournament due to injury. They’ll have to travel all the way to South Georgia just to play Norcross because of how the GHSA set things up. The Blue Devils will present quite the challenge, but it’s not one that South hasn’t met before: The War Eagles beat Norcross 2-1 on Aug. 10 during the Sequoyah Classic.

What’s next: The winner will play Marietta or Camden County.

West Forsyth vs Brookwood

When, where: Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Brookwood High School in Snellville.

Records: West is 14-28 and 2-4 in Area 5-7A; Norcross is 29-16 and 5-1 in Area 7-7A.

What to know: Just like last year, West is the No. 4 seed out of Area 5-7A, and just like last year, Brookwood stands in the Wolverines’ way. But although West found a way to pull the upset over the Broncos in last season’s second round, they’ll likely find it a bit tougher to do the same thing again. West is very young and their growing pains have shown all year, while Brookwood has mostly taken care of business against teams it was favored against this season.

What’s next: The winner will play North Cobb or Tift County.

Pinecrest Academy vs Hebron Christian Academy

When, where: Saturday at Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula.

Records: Pinecrest is 3-18 and 1-9 in Area 5-A/AA; Hebron Christian is 40-7 and 5-0 in Area 7-A/AA.

What to know: With their win over King’s Ridge Christian on Oct. 10, Pinecrest, winners of just three matches this season, found a way to sneak into the state playoffs. They’ll have a very tall task on Saturday, though: Hebron Christian ran away with their area title, and the Lions are one of the best volleyball teams in the state regardless of classification.

What’s next: The winner will play Calvary Day or Mount Vernon.
