District 25 state Rep. Todd Jones visited Pinecrest Academy on Monday to present the school's football team with a copy of House Resolution 126, which commemorates the Paladins' state championship.

Pinecrest captured the 2020 GAPPS Division II state title in November with a 44-18 victory against Lanier Christian.

Jones sponsored the resolution, along with District 26 state Rep. Lauren McDonald, District 9 state Rep. Will Wade, District 22 state Rep. Wes Cantrell and District 24 state Rep. Sheri Gilligan. The resolution was read and adopted Feb. 9.

The Paladins overcame a series of hurdles during the 2020 season, transitioning to 8-man football before the season began. Pinecrest lost its season opener to Harvester Christian, 40-32, before rattling off nine straight victories.

Pinecrest outscored its two playoff opponents by a combined score of 110-24.

"To go from that tough loss where you came back in the second half, to almost closing it out, and then coming back with seven straight wins and being able to get to the playoffs, that says something about each of you," Rep. Jones said. "But it says even more about the team."

The Paladins will graduate three seniors at the end of the school year, including Bryce Balthaser, Alex Jeffords and Mark Metz. Balthaser was named Forsyth County News 8-man Offensive Player of the Year in February.

"I will guarantee 100 percent that if you look back at this 10 years from now or 20 years from now ... it may be a job, it may be your marriage, it may be what you're doing in terms of raising your children, you're going to reflect on things that you learned over the past 12 months," Rep. Jones said. "I guarantee you it will help to guide you to what that decision needs to be."
