SUWANEE – Gabby Tanjuatco and Jenna Vollrath scored goals and South Forsyth edged Collins Hill, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Class 7A state playoffs Friday on the road.

The War Eagles (18-3) advance to play at Grayson, a 4-2 winner over Milton, on Tuesday in the state semifinals.

South returns to the state semifinals for the first time since 2013.

First Presbyterian 2, Pinecrest Academy 0

MACON – The Paladins’ historic ended Friday on the road in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A state playoffs.

Pinecrest had been something of a road-warrior team. The Paladins earned victories on the road against No. 1-seeded Darlington in Rome and No. 2-seeded Savannah Christian in Savannah. They faced another road trip against undefeated and No. 2-ranked First Presbyterian (21-0-0) to Macon.

But Pinecrest couldn’t find the back of the net Friday. They finished the season 12-9-0 with their first state quarterfinals appearance since joining the GHSA.

Centennial 20, South Forsyth 4

ROSWELL – The War Eagles couldn’t muster much offense Thursday in the first round of the Class 6-7A state playoffs on the road.

South (13-5) saw its best season in school history come to an end. The team set a single-season record for wins, and had its first all-state player in Max Kane.
