West Forsyth at Alpharetta

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Raider Stadium in Alpharetta.

Records, rankings: West is 0-1 overall, 0-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked in Class AAAAAA; Alpharetta is 1-0, 0-0 and unranked.

Series history: Alpharetta leads 3-2.

Last meeting: Alpharetta won 38-6.

What to know: It must be noted that these teams have won Region 6-AAAAAA the past three seasons, with West winning it in 2012 and Alpharetta winning in 2013 and 2014.

Both teams are coming off markedly different season-openers. West hung with then No. 7-ranked Mill Creek for a half but no longer in an eventual 51-13 loss. The Wolverines scored twice in the second quarter – a 1-yard run by Grant Torgerson and a 69-yard catch by Garrett Broxson from Kiernen Hamilton – but West was held to just 92 yards in the second half. Alpharetta, meanwhile, held off Milton for a 24-21 victory with a balanced effort on offense. Quarterback Matthew Downing threw three touchdown passes, while running back Nolan Edmonds rushed for 127 yards.

Last season, West has severely handicapped without starting quarterback Hampton McConnell (now at Georgia Southern), who left the game early with a concussion, and several other significant contributors as the Wolverines began the injury-riddled portion of their season. This time, West enters far healthier.
