Quarterback Kiernen Hamilton led the way on offense while the defense produced eight sacks as West Forsyth won 54-20 against Habersham Central on Homecoming on Friday.

West (2-2, 2-1 Region 6-AAAAAA) put on a show after a big win last week at Chattahoochee.  The Wolverines came to play and it was wide open from the time they stepped on the field until the last play of the game. West finished with 384 yards of total offense.

Hamilton threw for 260 yards and five touchdowns to four different receivers on 13-for-19 passing.

“It was just amazing, we had a great night, everyone came out to play, offensive line, running backs, everyone just had a great night,” Hamilton said.

Junior Eli Higgins racked up three individual sacks for West and seemed to be in the quarterback’s face every chance he got. The defense forced a safety to give the Wolverines a 23-7 lead at the start of the second quarter.

It was smooth sailing once West kicked a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to make the score 26-7. After the field goal the defense yet again held the Raiders offense to a three and out. Habersham had a 13-yard punt, giving West a short field, and the Wolverines took advantage. Three plays later, Hamilton tossed his fourth touchdown to make it 33-7.

The Raiders got another scoring opportunity late in the second quarter on a 12-play drive that ended in a 5-yard touchdown run by junior running back Michael Babers making the score 33-14 with a little over three minutes in the half.

No matter; West’s Austin Reid (170 all-purpose yards) simply returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards a touchdown.

And just for good measure, Garrett Broxson hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass from Hamilton just before halftime.

“I am just super proud,” West head coach Adam Clack said. “It’s homecoming week. A million ways to get distracted. This Hambersham team is well coached, and if you let your guard down they will expose you. We came on a razors edge and just very proud of the execution and very proud of how the defense rallied to the ball. That’s what we preach.”
