SOUTH FORSYTH — Christ Community Church of the Assembly of God took another step in its expansion project after receiving a recommendation of approval Tuesday from Forsyth County’s planning board to recommend a rezoning of its property to county commissioners.

Board members voted 4-0, with District 4 representative Alan Neal absent, to send 3D Project Management/David Gay’s application to the county commission, which has final say on the matter.

Approval at a hearing scheduled for May 21 would rezone the 9 acres from a mix of agricultural land, or A1, and commercial business district, or CBD, entirely to A1 with a conditional use permit.

The church sits on Campground Road, just north of Atlanta Highway (Hwy. 9).

The project includes an expansion to the existing building, bringing it to 31,609 square feet with 181 parking spaces.

Conditions restricted parking on Campground Road and allowed for 70 additional parking spaces to be used as needed.
