DAWSON COUNTY - Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson has released new information on a reported rape in the woods near the Circle K in downtown Dawsonville Wednesday morning.

Johnson said Thursday that investigators of the case have reason to believe the report was fabricated.

He said he does not know yet whether any charges will be filed against the 22-year-old Dawsonville woman who told police she was raped by an unknown male shortly before calling police at 4:55 a.m. Oct. 4.

According to a post from the sheriff’s office, the victim described the attacker as being dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask.
