A suspect remains at large after driving off from a traffic stop and then running away Wednesday afternoon in north Forsyth.

Around 5:15 p.m. Aug. 23, a deputy attempted to initiated a traffic stop on a white SUV for failure to maintain lane, according to Deputy Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

“Once the deputy activated his blue lights, the vehicle fled from the deputy,” Rainwater said. “We chased it, [after which] it went through the backyard of [a] Hunters Trace Drive [home]. The driver fled on foot and drugs were located within the vehicle, which were turned over to narcotics investigators.”

A K-9 unit was used to track the suspect though was unsuccessful, Rainwater said.

“We do have a suspect identified,” Rainwater said, “and it’s just a matter of time before we locate him.”
