Two arrested for May and July rapes
Crime

Over the last few days, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two suspects for rapes that allegedly took place this summer.

According to Cpl. Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Ray Joseph Freund, 18 and Charles McCully Freeman, 20, both of Forsyth County were arrested this week for different incidents that allegedly took place in May and July.

Rainwater said that Freeman is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl on “a number of different occasions.” He said that according to Georgia law anyone younger than 16 cannot consent to engage in sexual intercourse.

Freeman self-surrendered to the sheriff's office on Thursday morning.

Freund is accused of forcing himself on a 16-year-old girl during a house party at a southwest Forsyth residence in May. Rainwater said they believe alcohol played a part in the incident and that parents were in the residence during the incident.

Sheriff's office records show that Freund was taken into custody at West Forsyth High School on Friday.

“Because of the severity of these cases, we take investigating them very seriously,” Rainwater said.

Freund has been charged with one felony charge of strong-arm rape, and Freeman is being charged with one felony count of statutory rape.

Both men are being held in the Forsyth County Jail and are currently under no bond.
