WEST FORSYTH — A woman investigating a popping sound Tuesday morning at her home in the Vickery Downs subdivision discovered the garage was on fire and its doors were starting to melt from the heat, authorities said.

According to Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers, no one was injured in the blaze, which left the rest of the home at 5650 Vickery Circle, off Pittman Road, with little damage.

Shivers the woman told firefighters she could see the garage doors starting to buckle from the heat as she came outside about 9:30 a.m.

By that time, neighbors had called 911 and the fire department was en route.

Shivers credited the first engine company from Station 4, which is about four miles away, for its swift response.

“They attacked the fire quickly, and stopped the fire before it burned into the home,” he said.

According to Shivers, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but that it does not appear suspicious.
