DAWSONVILLE — A Forsyth County man was killed Saturday night as he attempted to pull onto Ga. 400 from Nightfire Drive.

John Joseph Dumphy, 78, died at the scene of the collision, according to Dawson County Emergency Services Director Billy Thurmond.

Dumphy’s wife and 15-year-old grandson were taken to area hospitals with injuries suffered in the crash that was reported about 7:30 p.m.

"We transported the woman to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by ambulance, and the teen was flown to Grady," Thurmond said.

She suffered a non-life threatening spinal injury, while the teen is battling "unspecified serious injuries," according to Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Robin Stone.

Authorities said Dumphy failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming Jeep, driven by Justin Wade Isbell of Dahlonega, who was heading north on Ga. 400.

"Witnesses stated that [Dumphy] stopped at the stop sign but then slowly drove across [Ga.] 400 when his car was struck by the Jeep," Stone said.

An 18-year-old passenger in the Jeep, Ramona Ball of Talking Rock, was also injured after the vehicle overturned on impact.

"She was [taken] to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with a spinal injury," Stone said.

Isbell and a second passenger were not injured.

Stone said everyone in both vehicles except for Dumphy was wearing seatbelts.

She also said drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the wreck, and charges would not be filed as the driver at fault was killed.

Dumphy's death marks the fifth fatality on Dawson County roads in 2015.
