Knocking down pins will be used for a good cause Saturday.

Mentor Me North Georgia, Forsyth County’s mentoring program formerly known as Big Brothers Big Sisters, will hold its annual Bowl for Kids at Stars & Strikes Family Entertainment Center.

The annual fundraiser invites anyone who enjoys bowling to pick up a few spares and maybe some strikes in support of the program, which provides one-on-one mentoring relationships between children and adults.

Cost is $35 at the door and includes shoe rental, two hours of bowling, a T-shirt, and pizza.

Sylvia Cardona, a Mentor Me employee, said Bowl for Kids has been the organization’s “trademark event” since 2005.

“Bowl for Kids is our largest annual fundraiser,” she said. “The funds we raise enable us to continue to recruit, screen and support the matches and friendships we create between adult volunteers and the children that need them.”

Cardona said it costs about $1,200 to “make and support one mentor/mentee match” for one year.

“Bowl for Kids can help make that happen,” she said.

Cardona said leaders are hoping to make $30,000 at the event.

“Our record year was 2008 when we made $25,000,” she said, adding that each year the event averages about 125 people.

“It’s a great family activity, a wonderful way for companies to help build team spirit and by having fun, people are helping to ensure we can provide professionally supported mentoring relationships to all the kids who need and want them.”
