United Community Bank is asking the public to donate various household items as part of a charity drive Saturday for Abba House.

The drive is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. next to the bank's Dawsonville location, 6372 Hwy. 53 East, across from the Dawsonville Theater.

The Abba House, a local Christian residential ministry for women and their children, helps those struggling with addictions and life-controlling issues.

Kara Hewatt, marketing director for the bank, said donations from the event will go toward a 37,000-square-foot expansion at Abba House.

The facility will help house 67 women and their children.

"We're involved in United Way and we've done our Day of Caring for the Abba House before," Hewatt said, adding that she hopes for a good turnout Saturday.

Hewatt said Abba House will accept household items, large and small, and working appliances. Other items include kitchenware, lamps, linens, beds, dishes, furniture, clothing and shoes.

For items that need to be picked up before Saturday, please call Abba House at (678) 208-2000.
