Cumming First United Methodist Church will kick off the holiday season this weekend.

A committee of church members has spent months making a variety of items for the 20thAnnual Christmas Bazaar, which is set for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

“The crafters work hard from February until November making unique gifts and decorations you won’t find at retail stores,” said Neida Streit, a spokeswoman for the church. “They include purses, bibs, blankets, multi-use seasonal candy jars, lighting, wreaths and much more.”

Outside vendors are not allowed at the bazaar, said Streit, adding that “everything is truly made by hand.”

Besides the gift items for purchase, the bazaar will also feature home-cooked pies, cakes and cookies for sale. Children will have a chance to take photos with Santa and share their Christmas wish lists with him.

The event has drawn as many as 600 people in some years, so Streit said those planning to attend should try to arrive early to get the best selection.

They also should plan to bring cash or checks to pay for items as credit and debit cards will not be accepted.

The church is at 770 Canton Hwy.
