NORTH FORSYTH — It’s a bird, it’s a plane. Nope, it’s a drone.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Atlanta Hobby and UAV Experts are holding drone day at 8250 Old Federal Road in northwestern Forsyth County. The event is open to both experienced flyers and amateurs alike.

“We’re going to have a bunch of hobbyists out at the field in Ball Ground, [known as] the GMA,” said Andrew Draper, creative director for Atlanta Hobby. “We’re going to have some hobbyists out there flying drones. There probably will be some other people there flying their planes and what have you.”

Draper said the event was open to “anyone that’s interested in flying a drone, anyone that has questions, anyone that been curious,” and that it will include several experienced drone pilots and some drones for novices to try.

“We’re going to have our team of experts out there, people that have been working on them, that have been flying them for years,” he said. “We’re going to have a lot of people out there who can answer questions and teach people and guide people on if they want to get into buying a drone.”

Draper said that he uses drones for photographs and video, but there are several uses for other businesses that are gaining popularity.

“I personally like to use drones for photography and videography. I was in Savannah [last] weekend and was able to get some really great shots of a wedding engagement using a drone,” Draper said.

“There are a lot of people trying to get experience in using them for real estate purposes [and] other people use them for farming, construction agriculture, that kind of stuff.”
