Forsyth County seniors are invited to show off their talents for an original production this spring.

Auditions for the second annual Georgia Senior Follies, which features entertainment by those 55 years “young” and better, will be held beginning Oct. 13.

The 2010 show will run April 15-25 at the Cumming Playhouse.

The Senior Follies is the creation of Cumming residents Bob and Kathy Russell, who also lead the local women’s trio, the Mood Swingers, and the Sounds of Sawnee Concert Band.

The Russells created the first Senior Follies show last year, after some 80 seniors showed off their talents during auditions.

Of the 80 acts, 45 made it into the final show. Some of the performers included dancers, magicians, comedians and Elvis and Frank Sinatra impersonators.

Kathy Russell, who serves as producer and director of the show while her husband handles the musical end, said she is again looking for a wide variety of talent.

“We’re looking for anything that is entertaining,” she said. “We need the typical singers and dancers, of course, but I would love to have ventriloquists, juggling, circus acts — anything that is entertaining for the public.”

Like last year, she said, this year’s show will be written around the talents that make it in.

“We’re creating a whole new show,” she said. “We can’t do the same show as last year, we have to have the unexpected.”

Due to a limited time frame, anyone wishing to audition must call ahead and make an appointment.

“If they just show up, we would probably have to reschedule them,” she said.

An accompanist will be available and dancers are asked to bring their own recorded music.

All those auditioning are also asked to bring a resume and head shot if available.

Appointment times will be available from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 13 and 20, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 17 and 24.
