SOUTH FORSYTH -- Break out the flapper dresses and tuxedos, because Forsyth County’s Monte Carlo Casino Night is coming to town.

The 22nd annual event is organized by the South Forsyth Rotary Club as its largest fundraiser of the year.

This year, the club is expecting more than 350 people at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center on March 7.

Net proceeds from the event, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will benefit Literacy Forsyth, YMCA Kids Summer Camp and Jesse’s House.

Rotarian Pat Paxton said he hopes the night will raise $35,000. The groups the event benefits change each year, but the idea of giving back to the community never ceases.

Casino games have been the main focus since the event began shortly after the Rotary Club was chartered in the early 1990s, Paxton said.

New this year, though, those who “do not care to gamble” may play carnival games like a ring toss or participate in raffles or a silent and live auction.

Tam’s Backstage is set to cater the event, for which guests can buy tickets online or at the door for $75. A ticket includes food and drinks.

Also new this year, a 20-piece live brass band with a Frank Sinatra singer will entertain the crowd.

Speaking of the crowd, Paxton said, everyone is asked to dress according to a Great Gatsby theme.

“There will be dancing,” he said. “Hopefully, there’ll be a lot of it, people kicking off their heels and having a good time.”

There will even be a 1920s’ car as a centerpiece decoration.
