Scrabble tournament aids literacy efforts

Words for Forsyth, a Scrabble tournament to benefit Literacy Forsyth was held Saturday.

The tournament featured play in two divisions, competitive and recreation, at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center.

In the competitive division, the winner was Stephen Kight, while Ralph Johnston was runner-up.

Forest Carpenter won the recreation division, with Lisa Parker taking second place.

Kight had the highest scoring turn, tallying 92 points.

Literacy Forsyth is a community nonprofit that provides educational opportunities to adults.

All proceeds from the event will help adults who need to get their General Education Development, or GED, diploma.

The organization plans to hold another Scrabble tournament later this year.
