With spring in the air and summer just around the corner, the new Forsyth County Animal Shelter wants locals to find someone to spend it with.

On Saturday, the shelter will be hosting their Spring Fling Adoption Event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new Forsyth County Animal Shelter on County Way in north Forsyth. The event is a chance to take home a new pet, but will also have several other festivities.

“We’re going to have a big event with Chris Barger, he’s a DJ who will come play music and we’re going to give away free food,” said Jeanie Curphey, the shelter’s manager. “We have several groomers coming, we have couple dog trainers coming and then my volunteers, they’re so awesome, they’ve gotten door prizes like gift certificates and that kind of stuff.”

Curphey said that other than door prizes, there will be care packages given to those who adopt made by local Girl Scouts.

“Our little Girl Scout troop has made care packages for anyone that adopts,” she said. “So they can get a little cat package from the Girl Scouts, or a little dog package, with the food and toys and litter.”

Though there will be a lot going on, Curphey said that the main goals of the event is to find homes for the animals and acquaint the community with the new shelter, which opened in August.

“Mainly, it’s just people coming and seeing our shelter,” Curphey said. “A lot of people still think that our shelter is at Dr. Orr’s, so people can come and find out about the shelter and maybe adopt and then find out about some other things going on in our community that has to do with companion animals.”

The Forsyth County Animal Shelter is at 4065 County Way, just of Ga. 400, and additional information can be found at (678) 965-7185 or
