Swimming clinics in Cumming feature Olympians

CUMMING — Young swimmers will have a chance this weekend to get some advice from a pair of gold medal-winning Olympians as the Cumming Aquatic Center plays host to the Fitter and Faster Tour.

“Young up-and-coming swimmers or competitive age group swimmers could benefit from either one of the clinics,” said Carla Wilson, director of the center. “It’s a good chance for them to meet some Olympians, which you don’t have a chance to do every day.”

The Olympic swimmers include Mark Gangloff and Lauren Perdue.

Two clinics will be held during the tour stop, with the first — Premier Essentials of Breaststroke and Freestyle Clinic — for ages 7-11 set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The second — High Performance Breaststroke and Freestyle clinic — will be from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday and is geared towards kids 12 and older.

Perdue won the 4x200 meter freestyle at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and Gangloff winning gold in the 4x100 medley in 2004 in Athens and again in 2008 in Beijing.

Registration for both events is available online at www.fitterandfaster.com.

Admission to the younger age group is $129 online and $164 on Saturday. Sunday’s event costs $139 online and $184 at the door.
