NORTH FORSYTH -- An 80-year-old man succumbed to injuries he sustained in a car crash on Memorial Day in north Forsyth.

Donald Resler, of Cumming, was traveling south on Ga. 400 near Crossroads Road just before 9:45 p.m. on May 30 when his Chevrolet pickup truck collided with a Chevrolet Cruze, according to Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Cruze, a 26-year-old female from Dahlonega, received minor bumps and bruises.

His passenger side was struck by the front of her vehicle, which was heading north on Ga. 400, Rodriguez said.

Resler was removed from his vehicle by Forsyth County Fire Department personnel and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with what were initially described as serious injuries that were not thought to be life threatening.

The collision reportedly ignited a fire in the engine compartment of the woman's vehicle.

No charges have been filed in this investigation.
