District 27 state Sen. Jack Murphy, R-Cumming, was recently tapped to serve on the Atlanta Region Transportation Roundtable.
Murphy and others on the panel will be charged with vetting and proposing transportation projects in their region that could be funded by a transportation special local option sales tax.
A referendum on the issue is set for July 2012.
“These roundtables put the decisions back in the voters’ hands by allowing them to decide what projects receive funding,” Murphy said. “Each region faces different transportation challenges, and now we’ll have the opportunity to develop projects that respond to our community’s specific needs.”
District 53 state Sen. Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, selected Murphy for the roundable.
