Authorities were pleased to report that Forsyth County experienced a safe New Year’s Eve.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office had “aggressive enforcement” on Monday night and early Tuesday morning for drunken driving, including checkpoints at Bald Ridge Marina and Pilgrim Mill roads, according to spokeswoman Karleen Chalker.

The units stopped about 80 vehicles, but didn’t find one person driving under the influence, Chalker wrote in an e-mail.

The checkpoints did result in one arrest for possession of marijuana and three of unlicensed drivers, she wrote.

“Our officers did respond to a number of complaints of loud parties, discharged fireworks and discharged firearms,” she wrote. “However, no one was arrested or injured.”

The agency handled four traffic accidents, none of which resulted in serious injuries, according to Chalker.

Fire Div. Chief Jason Shivers said the department had a “very quiet” 48 hours, and didn’t field any serious or holiday-related calls.
