Forsyth County is offering a chance to get rid of items residents may have cluttering their garages.

On Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Keep Forsyth County Beautiful will hold a paint and electronics recycling event to raise funds for local environment improvements at the Cumming Fairground’s parking lot 3 on Castleberry Road. A minimum donation of $5 per car load is requested.

“This event grows in popularity each year, especially with the addition of paint recycling last fall, and we are happy that we can continue to host it,” Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright said in a news release. “A majority of the residents I speak with during our recycling events are just happy to be clearing out their garages or storage spaces and doing so in a safe, environmentally mindful way.”

The event will accept electronic items including computers, stereos, cell phones and gaming consoles, but will take items that just use electricity, such as vacuum cleaners or kitchen appliances. A fee of $20 will apply for televisions and a $20 fee for each computer monitor.

Large wooden console and projection TVs will not be accepted.

KFCB will also accept oil and latex-based paints in the original containers. The disposal cost for latex paint is $12 for a 5-gallon bucket, $5 for a 2-gallon bucket, $3 for a 1-gallon can or $5 for two and $1 for a 1-quart can or smaller.

The cost for oil-based paints is $17 for a 5-gallon bucket, $4 for a 1-gallon can, $2 for a 1-quart can and $1 for a 1-pint can.

Spray paint cans can be recycled for $1 each.
