The reopening of Brannon Road, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been delayed.

Winter weather and holiday schedules have slowed the expected progress of the road improvement project, said Tim Allen, Forsyth County's assistant director of engineering.

"Depending on the weather, the contractor should be able to get Brannon Road opened in the next few weeks," Allen said. "Every effort will be made to minimize the closure."

The 300-foot section of the south Forsyth road was closed Nov. 29 as part of an intersection improvement project where Brannon meets Old Atlanta Road.

Right and left turn lanes are being added to Brannon, as well as a right turn lane onto Old Atlanta.

The grade of the road is being raised to allow better visibility for drivers, Allen said.

During the closure, Old Atlanta and Ronald Reagan Boulevard are serving as the detour.

Reid & Reid Contractors is handling the project for about $252,510, which will come from the county's 1-cent sales tax revenue.
