A handful of current and former members of the Georgia House and Senate Democratic Caucuses have endorsed a candidate for governor.

District 42 state Rep. Stacey Evans, a Democrat from Smyrna, received backing from Representatives Virgil Fludd, the former House Democratic Caucus chairman, House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Erica Thomas, Roger Bruce, Coach Williams, Keisha Waites, LaDawn Blackett Jones, Ronnie Mabra, Shelia Jones, Michael Smith, David Dreyer, Dar’Shun Kendrick and Spencer Frye.

“Stacey Evans has earned my support through her service, leadership and passion,” Thomas said. “Her message of hope and opportunity for every Georgian is one in which I believe in and encourage Georgians to support.”

Senators Michael Rhett and Elena Parent also joined in adding their names to the endorsement list.

“Stacey is a fighter and a friend,” Rep. Bruce said. “The Republicans know this and they know this campaign for governor is going to be a hard fought battle. Let’s keep them on the run not only in the governor’s race but down the entire ballot. Stacey’s history of service will drive a wide variety of voters to the polls, and that will help us win local races, as well.”

Evans said in an emailed news release announcing the endorsements that “the work we’ve done together for Georgia families is what binds us together, and this is exactly how we build the coalition representative of Georgia Democrats that will prepare us for a win in November.”
